Compass raises £1 million for Cancer Research UK

Compass Group UK & Ireland’s support of Cancer Research UK has reached the impressive £1 million mark. This major milestone was reached during the Wimbledon fortnight when Compass held its second annual Wimbledon Charity Ball at the Gatsby Club - one of the venues where Compass provides hospitality at The Championships Wimbledon.

Guests including clients, suppliers, world-famous chefs and stars from the sporting world, all enjoyed an evening of exquisite food and entertainment including a live charity auction, charity casino, live performance from BRIT award nominated band The Feeling and a fabulous three-course dinner designed by Michelin starred chefs, Albert Roux and Michel Roux Jnr.

Compass Group UK & Ireland’s Group Managing Director, Ian Sarson, said: “The Wimbledon Charity Ball was a great night with exceptional food and service. It was brilliant to see so many people from across the industry come together to show their support and I’m delighted that we managed to raise over £80,000 on the night,” Ian added.

The money raised from the Wimbledon Charity Ball will go directly towards supporting the research careers of two promising Cancer Research UK funded Cambridge Research Institute PhD students, Elke Van Oudenhove and Sarah Jurmeister.

Each Compass unit was recently given the challenge of raising £75 in the space of one month to help beat cancer. This huge initiative saw thousands of Compass colleagues demonstrate their fundraising skills by organising competitions and raffles, fancy dress days and sponsored challenges.
