Helistrat supports LionHeart Programme at King Richard School

Staff from Helistrat alongside pupils from King Richard School

Environmental consultancy and contract manager Helistrat, has sponsored Kind Richard School’s participation in the Nationwide Enterprise Programme – The LionHeart Challenge.

The LionHeart Programme, which has been delivered to over 409,000 pupils throughout the UK, brings students together to produce and present a comprehensive business proposal including HR, Finance and Marketing elements.

Working under the guidance of trained business coaches, pupils at Kind Richard School in Paulsgrove (Portsmouth), identified 16 local community groups and then worked in teams to produce a practical and deliverable plan to help their chosen group. These plans were then presented to a panel of judges from Helistrat.

The winning team devised a creative plan using social and broadcast media to launch a national youth Football Tennis league.  The league was designed to help participants boost their confidence and make new friends, whilst helping to promote awareness and address some of the challenges faced by young people including jobs, bullying, education, money, drugs, alcohol and peer pressure. They will now go on to the regional final taking place in the autumn in London.

Gareth Hughes, Headteacher of King Richard School, said: “We were delighted to work in partnership with Helistrat on the exciting LionHeart initiative and we are extremely grateful to them for their vision and generosity in enabling the project to happen.  The students responded very positively to the challenge, and the support and engagement of Helistrat senior staff made a huge difference to the experience the students had on the day.”

Commenting on the programme, Helistrat’s CEO, Harvey Laud said: “It was great to see the enthusiasm and creativity that the students of King Richard School brought to the day.  It’s vital that we give young people more of this type of practical business experience, which is so valuable when implemented alongside the National Curriculum.
