Mitie wins Integrated Facilities Management contract with Co-op

The facilities cover over 33,000m2

Mitie has been awarded a three-year contract with the Co-op following a competitive tender process. The contract covers cleaning, landscaping, engineering services, security, front of house, catering and waste. These services will be delivered to fully reflect Co-op's commitment to sustainability and employee well-being.

Mitie’s new contract supersedes multiple existing separate facilities contracts and will provide both efficiencies and an improved employee experience. Mitie will oversee facilities management for Co-op’s corporate offices and data centres, which combined cover over 33,000m2.

Co-op's support centre in Manchester, One Angel Square, is one of Europe’s most sustainable buildings and is built to a BREEAM “outstanding” rating, achieving a record BREEAM score on opening. Demonstrating its commitment to working with the Co-op, Mitie will make a significant investment in implementing its Connected Workspace technology at One Angel Square.

Co-op and Mitie will collaboratively implement tailored technology to capture and manage building usage data. This includes monitoring a number of environmental elements such as temperature and occupancy. Mitie will harness this data and use the insight to make the Co-op’s buildings smarter and working life better for its employees.

Gather & Gather, Mitie’s catering business, offers a fresh approach to food, working closely with independent and local suppliers to stay ahead of market trends. Its focus on sustainable sourcing and value for money approach aligns with the Co-op’s sustainability and diversity ambitions. Gather & Gather will introduce pop-ups and food truck events in partnership with local suppliers to bring innovation and variety to lunch time breaks.

Mitie also provides cleaning and winter services for around 1,500 Co-op stores and Funeralcare homes across the UK. To date the landscaping team has already carried out over 25,000 gritting visits ensuring Co-op car parks and surrounding environs are safe for Co-op colleagues and customers.

Andrew Thompson, Managing Director, Technical Facilities Management, Mitie said: “Co-op is a recognised leader in sustainability and Mitie is looking forward to working with the business on championing this commitment. Our Connected Workspace technology solutions will seek to further enhance One Angel Square’s environmental credentials and we have built a package of Mitie services to support and enhance the Co-op’s resilience and well-being goals across its wider estate.”
