Ten of the weirdest items found in waste hauls

Environmental waste clearance company EnviroWaste, has compiled a list of the twenty most weird and wonderful items it has discovered in its waste hauls in London since launching in 2011.

The top ten weird and wonderful finds are as follows:

1.       A taxidermy cat dressed in a baby’s onesie
2.       The bones of Apostle St Clement
3.       A nude painting of Albert Einstein
4.       A sealed box full of maggots
5.       A life-sized rubber doll (still inflated)
6.       A fully functioning Apple Macbook
7.       A vacuum sealed £5 note with Prince Charles’ signature
8.       A Super Soaker full of urine
9.       A prosthetic leg
10.   A laminated love letter

EnviroWaste employees have been keeping a record of the weird items they find in their hauls as a quirky internal exercise. All of the above were found in commercial and domestic hauls and skip hire collections in the greater London area.

With some items that could have sentimental or high monetary value, measures were taken to return them to their owners, for example the Macbook had been stolen and dumped in an EnviroWaste skip.

EnviroWaste is a family-run business, specialising in environmentally-safe waste disposal and skip hire for the commercial and domestic markets in London. James Rubin owner of EnviroWaste said:
“I think it’s safe to say that waste disposal is not a glamorous job, however it can certainly be an interesting one! We started keeping a tally of these items quite early on because it helps keep morale high and provides the team with sometimes a much needed laugh!

“The majority of these items were found in domestic clearances where a person has passed away and EnviroWaste was hired to dispose of the contents of their house. London as we all know is a very vibrant and diverse place with lots of quirks, so it’s not surprising that we come across some really unusual items.

“Often these can pose a problem on how to dispose of them safely. For instance, the stuffed dead cat ended up going to a collector - minus the onesie - and the nude Einstein painting went home with one of our employees!”
