SERCO SECURES HONG KONG HOSPITAL AUTHORITY CONTRACT

Serco Asia Pacific has won a new contract to provide domestic and portering services to Kowloon East Cluster for the Hong Kong Hospital Authority.

The three-year contract for services to the Tseung Kwan O Hospital and Haven of Hope Hospital will commence on 1 July 2020 and is valued at HKD175million (£18.3 million). The two hospitals have a total of almost 1200 beds.

The contract award builds on Serco’s experience in Hong Kong where support services and facilities management have been provided since 1996. Serco has provided transportation and cleaning services to the 1600-bed tertiary Prince of Wales Hospital in Hong Kong since 2012.

Serco’s Managing Director for Asia, Garry Brown, said: “We have prepared an experienced mobilisation team to ensure a seamless transition at the hospitals, focussed on service quality across a range of key operational and functional areas.

“We will employ some 600 staff, and I am looking forward to them joining Serco and helping to deliver an excellent level of service as we do at the Prince of Wales where our managers and frontline workers consistently demonstrate their commitment to service that is praised by the hospital users, staff, patients and visitors.”

Serco Asia Pacific Chief Executive Officer Mark Irwin said the new contract recognised the importance of experience in the healthcare and facilities sector, and ability to bring new innovations to Hong Kong, adding: “At this time when the Covid-19 pandemic is placing pressure on health and the wider government services, it is pleasing that we can help deliver a focussed service to the Hong Kong hospital sector.

“Importantly we recognise transition and then initial delivery and performance will be a key, and our local team is very focussed on working with management at the Kowloon East Cluster.”
