Award-winning sustainability

Recognition came for two of ISS UK’s talented waste management Service Development Managers at the 2017 edie Sustainability Leaders Awards on 25th January. Kristina Jackson was crowned the 2017 Sustainability/CSR Manager of the year, whilst Helene Carpentier was one of the three nominees shortlisted in the category.

Kristina’s award highlighted her exceptional work implementing projects that support the ‘Zero Waste to Landfill’ target for a major retail bank client across their 2,156 sites. Her efforts over the year contributed to one of the most impactful, environmentally-focused projects in the banking sector.

The other finalist, Helene, has been responsible for the implementation of a best-in-class sustainability strategy at a leading London Airport. Her input increased the recycling rate of one of the terminals to the world class rate of 75%. Helene has driven award winning environmental sustainability strategy at the global transport hub, largely achieved through strategic focus on employee engagement and behavioural change.

Kristina and Helene are also joint chairs of a sustainability and resource management leadership forum at ISS and have consistently demonstrated their achievements across their profession. Both are working to build a network of aspirational leaders in order to shape the way 21st century workplaces perceive and manage their waste and resources.

Kristina joined ISS to work with a major airport client to define and deliver excellence at the site before moving on to manage the large and complex bank portfolio. Helene joined ISS in 2015 and took the reins from Kristina at the airport to build and develop the contract.

edie Sustainability Leaders Judges said: “Kristina’s positive impact in such a relatively short space of time has been truly remarkable. She has demonstrated that taking a big-picture approach to sustainability can help to drive engagement, deliver clear results and achieve social good.”

Ian Baxter, UK Waste Services Director, ISS Facility Services said: “Being finalists in this category is a fantastic achievement for Kristina and Helene both, but it is also a credit to ISS’ ability to attract and retain talent that is able to deliver.”
